PROJECT
Aroha Harawira is a kiwi artist who released her debut EP ‘No More Jenga’ in December 2020. She asked me to create two videos before the release that visualised her two new songs; ‘No More Jenga’ and ‘L2K’.
As Aroha explained to me No More Jenga is all about being confined in lockdown, restricted by the rules, and separated from loved ones. In her mind, Jenga blocks falling represents the struggle of holding your mental health together during uncertain times. In this short loop, I needed to capture her thoughts and also stay on brand with the existing cover art for the EP.
As the camera travels through this minefield of Jenga blocks, it is searching, looking for answers, or maybe a way out but unable to see far enough to find anything. The blocks are constantly in motion, moving erratically and swelling in size, unpredictable like the virus.

R&D: Initially exploring with a warped city scape, I then decided to simplify it as to not overload the scene

R&D: Proof of concept
L2K
Aroha explains L2K is almost the opposite of No More Jenga. It is about being reunited with your friends and family and sharing that first drink together after so long.
The video was to represent pure happiness and excitement. To me, there is nothing better in life than a sunset, the ocean, and having a good boogie.
